Boating in the San Juan Islands | Sucia Island in the Rain

Sometimes a rainy day on the boat can be a wonderful thing.  Rather than feeling the obligation to go out exploring, go for a hike, or some other form of exercise, an occasional day of damp and chilly weather while cruising can be welcome.

Not that anyone needs permission to relax while boating, a day of lousy weather can help to coax oneself to slow down, find a comfortable spot on board, read a book, take a snooze, or just be.

My latest video is about a recent rainy day at Sucia.  Check it out!

  1. Hi Steve. So enjoy seeing you and hearing your voice. The scenery isn’t bad either!!!❤

  2. Steve, great vid. I would like to hear about your RIB outboard motor size matching and specs sometime. I also have a 1967 Popular Science article on the Tolly 24ft Express Cruiser and the beginnings of the Pli-core hull for your archives if you want. Pmail me if you are interested. Also would like to join up with you for a local single-handed trip anytime. – John H. – Tashi II 1969 24ft Tolly EC LaConner

  3. Great video. I grew up running around the islands, still one of my favorite places to visit.
We had a 31 foot uniflite growing up, looked very much like your boat. Thanks for bringing me back to special memories.

  4. Thanks Kathy! I, too, grew up running around the islands, and it warms my heart that, for the most part, they haven’t changed…

  5. Thanks John! I’ll have to talk about my dinghy setup in a video sometime. For now, it’s a 9’ Achilles aluminum RIB with a 9.8 Nissan/Tohatsu 4 stroke outboard. I love it!

I’d love to have a scan of that article. My email is steve@mvjollymon.com
